The most important thing is that you're specific car CAN TOW a caravan OF A CERTAIN WEIGHT. So check the weight of you're caravan, and check whether it has its own brakes or will use you're cars breaks.
Now look up the specifications of you're car and with that information you can see how much you can pull (should display WITH and WITHOUT own brakes).
As long as you don't override the max. pulling weight that you're car can handle you should be fine.
Automatics are even smoother in pulling things then a shifter since automatics have a clutch that works on how much torque is needed (if you have like an Audi, MERCEDES, CADDY or something more exclusive). There is no problem whatso ever with towing with a automatic ;)
