Probably not because the newer System is probably from a different vendor. I have a 2001 DTS and when I finally located the vendor (from the information on the Nav Disc) I was told that GM was using a different Vendor and there is a restriction on offering the updates to Cadillac Owners. They would not tell me which other manufacturers were using that same system. When I contacted Cadillac Customer Service I was told that the solution would be to trade in the car for a newer model. That is about a $35,000 price swing. If I have to go that route I will go to a Lexus.
You dont have to update your GPS system in order to use it. However it is recommended so that you have the most accurate and current map data.
Updated Navigation DVDs can be purchased at www.hondanavi.com. You can also access this link through Owner Link if you have registered a vehicle that has a navigation system. It is priced at about $150 in Dec. 2008.
Typically, this depends on the product and brand you have purchased. Some have lifetime updates that automatically update your navigation, either when you plug it into a computer or automatically. Another alternative is purchasing an update for your system. Typically, it will ask you to do so after having the product after about a year because roads and areas change so much in a year's time.

The biggest and best advantage of a gm navigatio system is that they really work. They are able to update automatically when there is road construction, and delays. They tell you the best and quickest route every time.
Update prices are usually around $80 bucks for Magellan GPS systems. Pretty pricey if you ask me, but you can easily download the updates from their website: MagellanGPS.com/Maps. Just go to Vehicle Navigation Maps and select your device.
