If the load is non inductive and straight resistive then there is no problem. Inductive loads like motors, a 60 Hz device can be used on 50 Hz but it is much harder on the equipment if 50 Hz is used on a 60 Hz system.

What is the US calculation of 110V 60hz?

Do you mean definition? If so 110V = 110 volts-60hz = 60 hertz. Hertz is the cycles that the electricity runs at. 60hz. is the US standard. Europe is at 50hz.

How can you determine if an electric motor is 50HZ or 60HZ if there is no name plate?

One way would be to hook it up to a supply (by itself, with no load) and measure the speed with a contact tachometer. If your supply is 60Hz, and the motor speed corresponded to one of the standard motor speeds, it would be a pretty safe bet you had a 60Hz motor. If the speed was about 20% faster than a standard speed, the motor is probably a 50Hz motor. Or 20% slower if you were running a 60Hz motor on 50Hz For instance, a 1750 RPM 50Hz motor would spin at about 2100 RPM if you ran it on 60Hz.

Is there anyway to get 120V 60hz from a 100V 50hz power supply?

A motor-generator or a solid state power converter can do this.Motor-generators are an old electromechanical technology. In this case you would use a 240V 50Hz synchronous motor and a 110V 60Hz generator with their shafts connected so the motor turns the generator.Solid state power converters use a high power rectifier to convert the input AC to DC, a precisely tuned oscillator to set the output frequency, and a high power class AB push-pull amplifier powered by the high voltage DC and driven by the oscillator to generate the output voltage.

Can a 220V x 40W bulb bought in India used in America where supply standard is 110V x 60Hz and does the power consumed varies?

If you can use it in your lamp it will be a 20 watt bulb

Can you use a 480V 60hz deep fryer on a 380v 50hz power supply stepped up to 480v 50hz by a transfomer?

It is an extremely expensive way of utilizing the deep fat fryer. You should look into changing the heating coils in the fryer to utilize the new voltage. That said it can be done.

Is there anyway to get 220V 60hz from a 110V 50hz power supply?

It would involve some electronics work but it could be done. Might add that it could be more expensive than just buying the proper power supply. Use Use 220V 60hz motor to run 110V 50hz Generator.

Is 50Hz to 110V as 60Hz is to 220V?

No. For more information see the answers to the Related Questions shown below.

Why doesn't my 110v Wahl hair clippers work correctly when plugged into a power converter converting 220 v to 110 the screw on the side has no effect?

The internal working of the motor is designed for 110V/60Hz. Your stepdown converter is from 220V/50Hz to 110V/50Hz. Frequency converters from 50Hz to 60Hz are very expensive (many times the cost of a new clipper). Therefore it is better you get a clipper designed for 220V/50Hz. If you still like to put your clipper to use, then the most cost effective solution would be to get a "car inverter" that would convert 12V DC to 110V/60Hz AC.

Is there a difference between Australian and American power supplies?

There is a difference. For one thing, Australia works at 50hz and America at 60hz, and in domestic supply, Australia works at 240v and America at 110v.

Do Indian electrical devices work in US?

No India uses 240V at 50Hz the U.S. uses 110V at 60Hz.

Can 220v 50hz CPU computer run 220 60hz power supply?

No

Why is Japan's electrical distribution split up into the two power frequencies of 50Hz and 60Hz?

Power companies in the west purchased 60Hz equipment, and companies in the east purchased 50Hz equipment. This was back in the late 1800's to early 1900's. It would be cost prohibitive to replace all the 50Hz equipment with 60Hz, or vice versa at this point, so both are used.

Can you use the 220v 50hz appliances in 110v 60hz?

Depends. Some smaller stuff can usually run on both, in which case it will be printed on them. If it isn't, you can't run a 220v item on 110v.

Will a 110V 60Hz home theater system bought in the US work in Singapore which uses a 220V 50Hz by just using a voltage transformer?

Your stereo system has an internal transformer in the power supply that is designed to operate at a given frequency. If it is designed to operate at the load your stereo system will use at 50 Hz, then yes. Otherwise this transformer will overheat when connected at the wrong frequency, and will burn out. You might be lucky and the power supply may be labelled to operate at 50 or 60Hz; if not, I recommend contacting the manufacturer. A voltage transformer will convert 50Hz 220 to 50Hz 110. To change frequency, you need special equipment.

Will a device that is rated as 110V AC 60Hz and 3A work with a step down convertor with 220V to 110V and 50Hz rating?

Depending on the device, it may or may not work. And if it works, it won't work properly. A 60Hz devices needs 60 cycle current, not 50.
