The simple answer is yes. The lower the viscosity number (i.e. - 5, in this case) just means that it flows readily at lower temperatures.
An answer from a professional is in order here, this person above was incorrect, You CAN put 5w-20 in your motor, but your motor will likely lose a LOT of engine life, engine's are designed with specific clearances between the bearings and internal components, using a thinner than specified oil Will allow internal parts to rub, or increase friction, the added heat, and likely wear from components now touching the bearing surface rather than floating on a thin layer of oil will cause engine damage, use your manufacturer's recommended engine oil viscosity, most newer vehicles use 5w30, in extreme use or high heat cases you may use a step thicker engine oil, due to the added heat thinning the oil. = 10w30. So for instance if your car was recommended for 5w30 from the manufacturer, but you live in Texas or Arizona, 10w30 is likely in order.

The Owner Guide for a 2000 Ford Explorer shows ( 5W-30 ) for the 5.0 liter V8
I have a 2000 Ford Focus it uses Mercon V. Mercon V is what I use in my 2000 Focus with a standard transmission. I have an Automatic 2000 Ford Focus station wagon and the owners manual suggests Mercon V.

Either 5W20 or 5W30.
Do NOT use Diesel fuel in a Ford Focus. The engine will stop running and you will have to drain the gas tank to rid the car of the diesel fuel. Gasoline engines are not designed to run on diesel. They do not have enough compression to cause the diesel fuel to combust The only engine used in a 2000 Ford Focus was the 2.0 which is NOT a diesel engine.
Use your ignition key. Forget the dash button!
The only way to use a standard key on the 2000 Ford Focus, would include leaving the transponder key taped or fastened to the ignition or steering column. Then, a standard key will start the vehicle.?æ
