You can only use 10w40 if it is listed in your owners manual as an acceptable weight of oil for the engine.

I use 10W40. but u can use 10W30, 15W50(really cold climate), 5W30, 5W50. i recommend 10W40 though.
Yes you can use 5W20 oil instead of 5W30. One is just thicker then the other. The 5W20 is better in the winter and the 5W30 is better in the summer.
