You should not use Aqua Perl (Which is a Expanded Perlite Filter Media), or DE filter media in a sand filter.
Here are a few reasons:
1. The Aqua Perl will come out every time you backwash your filter (it is much lighter and has a certain percentage of "floaters" (material that floats on top of water).
2. There are very small particles in both Aqua Perl and DE that may get into your swimming pool causing a "cloudy" effect.
3. Sand is much more permeable than Aqua Perl, and you will get a lower flow rate than with sand. The pressure will be higher as well.
4. A sand type filter is not designed for either Aqua Perl or DE. To use this type
of filter media you need a DE type filter. Using a DE type filter will give much better results than with sand.
It could damage the internal PVC of the filter and cause sand to get in your pool.
Aqua Sand is normal sand covered with particles of a sillicon compond called trimethylhyroxysilane.
We have had a Hayward for 33 yrs.--we also changed to Zeobrite (instead of sand) It is wonderful.
how do you clean jacuzzi sand filter, and replace sand
distinguish between slow and rapid sand filter
Nothing if its a sand filter However if sand is coming into the pool from the filter then you may have to replace one ore more laterals in the sand filter as they have worn and are letting sand through to the pool,
Do you mean how do you install a sand filter?.
The best sand filter I have seen up to now is one that I scored along with a new magnapool chlorination system last year. I have never seen the water kept as clean as it is now. The trick is not so much in the filter as in the filter media. Instead of sand this unit has a material called diamond cleenhttp://www.poolrite.com.au/new-products.htm
Because dirt and small sand will pass through the filter the first time it is run after backwashing. By rinsing you are sending that debris, which could cloud your pool, out of the backwash port instead of back into the pool.
You can get swimming pool filter sand or a number of other filter media that can be used instead of sand from most pool shops. You can also get sand from under above ground pools from a builders supply or nursery.
differentiate between slow and rapid sand filters
If you have a sand filter the laterals in it may be starting to show signs of wear these wil blow sand from the sand filter into the pool when they wear out.
