You can use a smartphone for a wireless hot spot, Places like best buy also sell portable hot spots that can be payed for monthly. You can also bridge the connection between 2 computers with an eithernet cord.

Then you go to the settings menu of the PS3 for internet connect and complete the set up for an internet connection. Without internet service and connection devices an online connection is not possible. The PS3 has WiFi which only means that it can connect to your WiFi internet service that you have set up. it does not mean you get an internet connection without having access to an internet service

No. The PS3 can only have a wired connection with an ethernet cable. The only other connection that is possible is WiFi. The PS3 can only connect to the internet with WiFi or ethernet cable no other type connection is possible. You can not use the HDMI or USB port to connect the PS3 to the internet. I do not believe a router can be connected to the internet cable without a modem or that you can have cable internet without a modem
