Absolutely. The payment method for the phone is set at the network's computer - not the handset. If you have a pre-paid t-mobile phone, and want to stay with them - contact their customer service number and explain what you want to do. You may have to endure a credit check before they switch you onto a contract - but that's usually just a formality.

The phones that are available for the no contract prepaid plan with T-mobile are Concord, Nokia X2, T Mobile 665, LG Optimus, My Touch, Blackberry Curve, and just about any Samsung phone. All T-mobile phones are also available to use prepaid.

Yes. if it is a tmobile sim card and a tmobile phone then this will definitely work. you will also be able to carry on with the same price plan and number you used before. If you currently have a Tmobile phone on a contract plan that is complete you can also just change your plan to a pre paid plan and keep on using the phone that you have. UPDATE: As of April 2012, TMobile prepaid phones may only connect to T Mobile towers, limiting your signal (since they also use ATT towers) and giving you varied signal strength depending on your location. So, it's best to unlock any prepaid phone. Ask T Mobile to send you the unlock code or pay someone to unlock your phone.

Yes, in the case of TMobile I bought a prepaid tmobile phone and have been able to use it for my postpaid tmobile account. The sim card was smaller so I had to contact them to transfer my phone number. I know that Virgin phones can only be used with their carrier but I'm not sure what other carriers rules are.
