You should not use baby toothpaste on a dog. Many of them contain one or more chemicals that could be toxic to dogs.
There are special toothpastes available at most pet stores and veterinarians specifically formulated for dogs. I use one called BreathaLyser using a soft toothbrush. If your pet does not react well to a toothbrush, try using your finger instead.

But, Any pet stores in your area (petsmart, petco, ect.) have dog toothbrushes that usually come in packs including the toothbrush, a finger brush, and toothpaste. The toothpaste will usually last about 3 months if used in a routine. If you have a hyper dog, it's not nessecary to hold him down or distract him, you should pick him/her up and hold under it's "elbow" area while your brushing. If you use this technique, it's better to use a finger brush because you just scrub the teeth with your finger. Hope this helps !
