jpeg and jpg format are same. the difference is only that jpg is the extension file of jpeg. you can not convert one into other.

Actually extension or format is jpeg but older computers allows you to have only 3 letters for extension or format and that's why this extension or format is shortened. Nowadays newer computers allow 4 digit extension and everybody ussualy use 4 leters or digits. If you want to send file to somebody who have older computer then save and send file with 3 digit extension .jpg. To rename from jpeg to jpg simply right click on windows computers on file and choose rename, then delete letter e in jpeg and press Enter. This will not make any difference to file and confirm renaming when Windows display warning.

How do you convert a PDF file which is an old newspaper clipping to a JPEG format?

You can use the "PrintScreen" button on your keyboard and then copy the image into Windows Patin to save it as a JPG. To prevent any lose of the image resolution I prefer to use a AXPDF pdf to JPG converter to get the PDF page into JPG. But I would like suggest to get a PNG image rather than JPG image format because PNG file is small and better for text images.

JPG and JPEG both stand both for an image format proposed and supported by the Joint Photographic Experts Group. The two terms have the same meaning and are interchangeable. Both JPEG and JPG are bitmap compression formats for picture and image files with compression ratios ranging from 10:1 to 20:1. In fact, JPG and JPEG file formats are identical.Older DOS-based computers were designed to handle a maximum "3-character file extension" which is why JPG was attributed to compressed image files. Newer Operating systems allow for longer file extensions as evidenced by .html. Accordingly, the JPG file extension was upgraded to the JPEG file extension which is the true acronym for Joint Photographic Experts Group.
