The new Wii U games usually require the new Wii U controller and will be displayed in HD, which the Wii cannot display.
There are several components that the Wii U has (mainly the game pad and graphics card) that the Wii does not.
However, the Wii U is backwards compatible, so the Wii U can play Wii games.
