Cut two pieces of trimmer line about 6-8 ft long. Push the line into the opening in the spool until it comes out of the bottom of the spool. Do this for both sides and then wind the spool in the reverse direction to fill the spool. Pull on the line occasionally to make sure the line is not binding up in the spool. There are spools that will take one single long line, where the center of the line is attached to a notch (or similar) in the center of the spool and then wound with one line on each side of the spool.
