Check battery cables and alternator wiring for looseness and/or corrosion.
Weak alternator--can't keep up with battery load. Check with a voltmeter
A fully charged battery should read approx. 12.8 volts withou engine running
With engine voltage should increase to approx. 13.8-14.2 volts. If not in this range replace

The battery "starts" the car...after that the alternator keeps the battery charged. They work together in other words.

Because your alternator starts to generate more power as you accelerate, as opposed to an engine at low speed or idle. The car reads this extra voltage from the alternator, which is trying to charge the battery, and tells the light to go off. This is not normal on a vehicle with an alternator. You need to have the alternator checked as it more than likely needs replacing.

It's probably the belt slipping. Check for belt tension. When an engine first starts the alternator works harder to recharge the battery. During that time, the alternator is harder to turn and if the belt isn't tight enough there can be some slipping between the belt and the pulley.
