Check battery cables and alternator wiring for looseness and/or corrosion.

Weak alternator--can't keep up with battery load. Check with a voltmeter

A fully charged battery should read approx. 12.8 volts withou engine running

With engine voltage should increase to approx. 13.8-14.2 volts. If not in this range replace

Is alternator used once car starts?

The battery "starts" the car...after that the alternator keeps the battery charged. They work together in other words.

Why does battery light go off when accelerating?

Because your alternator starts to generate more power as you accelerate, as opposed to an engine at low speed or idle. The car reads this extra voltage from the alternator, which is trying to charge the battery, and tells the light to go off. This is not normal on a vehicle with an alternator. You need to have the alternator checked as it more than likely needs replacing.

4-cylinder 99 tercel starts the stalls starts again and stalls then the battery is dead?

It sounds like your alternator is no longer recharging your battery. You probably need a new alternator.

What causes the car not to start and iginition not to go out?

If the ignition isn't firing then you're looking at an electrical problem: Bad spark plugs, distributor, cables or battery. If you're frequently draining your battery and needing jump starts, the alternator could be failing as well.

Will a bad alternator keep a 1999 S10 pickup truck from starting?

The answer is no . The battery starts you vehicle , the alternator charges the battery so if your alternator is bad your battery is not receiving a charge which will cause a "no start" condition.

Why is there a loud squealing noise from the engine during cold starts as well as accelerating on a 1995 Mazda MPV?

It's probably the belt slipping. Check for belt tension. When an engine first starts the alternator works harder to recharge the battery. During that time, the alternator is harder to turn and if the belt isn't tight enough there can be some slipping between the belt and the pulley.

Engine starts then stops why?

a very weak battery , faulty alternator, shorted starter draining the battery resume try those first. Hence fully charge battery, if cars run properly for a few days and starts stalling again after startup then change alternator. --- if the alternator or battery was bad, the car wouldn't make an attempt to start. if you engine starts then a few seconds dies. Check for fuel, Check youer fuel pump relay. See if your fuel is actually getting to the engine by checking the schrader valve on the fuel line. Also check for spark, if you did any tuning, you need to make sure your igntion timing, air/fuel is all correct.

Your car wont start just makes a clicking sound?

That could be the alternator or the battery. Try jump starting your car with another car's battery. If it still does not start, it is probably the alternator. If it starts, your battery is dead.

Is it the alternator if the car starts then after 10 hours the battery goes dead and does not start but after running for a few minutes starts again?

Most likely it will not be the alternator. It sounds as though the alternator is working very well. It will be a faulty battery or a battery drain due to something left on or shorted out. Usually a boot light or glovebox light or recently fitted stereo.

What could cause a battery to be drained after i have changed the alternatorand the battery.it jump starts and starts back up like five times but after that my battery is dead again.what could it be?

Best guess would be that you have a short to ground somewhere that is draining your battery.

How do you know the problem is the alternator?

If your car doesnt start, it could be the battery. But if the car starts and you unplug the negative cable and the car turns off, its the alternator.

Truck starts and runs but dies if you dont keep accelerating?

It is probably the alternator. That is what keeps the battery running to the rest of the vehicle. It is probably the fuel to air mixture or a vacum leak. If you hear a hiss when it is running then its vacum if it just slowly stalls when you don't give it throtle then it is fuel.
