lots of things. Graphite, used as pencil lead, is a form of carbon. Coal is a form of carbon, burned for heat. Diamonds are also a form of carbon, used both for decorative and for industrial purposes (such as polishing granite). And if we include compounds which are made partially of carbon, then we have all of biochemistry. Human life, or any form of life that we know of, cannot exist without the carbon atom. Even Star Trek refers to humans as a "carbon-based life form".
