There were numerous reasons for it. A large part of it was the nationalization of American owned property. The US felt that US citizens had been robbed of land and factories without reasonable compensation. Supporting those Cubans that wanted to overthrow the Castro government might have resulted in the return of the US owned property. The U.S. also wanted to remove the Communist government of Cuba because it was viewed as a direct threat to the American mainland and democracy.

What events led up to the invasion of the Bay of Pigs?

Answer Fidel Castro lead a Communist revolution in Cuba that reformed the entire country. The government took over control of private industries and ran out many of the political leaders. So the invasion was supposed to generate support among the local people to fight to overthrow Castro. The US government helped plan the operation and used some Cuban exiles as well as CIA and members of the Alabama Air National Guard. The landings were repulsed and the local people did not rise in support of it.

Why did the Bay of Pigs invasion take place and with what results?

In brief, the Bay of Pigs invasion was a result of America's anti-communist policies during the Cold War. President John F Kennedy inherited his predecessor's planned operation to orchestrate Fidel Castro's removal, and proceeded with the operation, albeit in a modified format. It was hoped to provoke Castro's overthrow by Cuban expatriates, while keeping visible US involvement to a minimum. The landing was a failure due to, among other things, a lack of support & air cover, and JFK's decision to alter planned air-raids. The landing party established a beachhead but was surrounded by 20,000 Cuban troops. With no support, and overwhelming opposition, the landing failed.

Which came first in history Cuban revolution or CIA discovery of nuclear missile sites in Cuba?

Castro's cuban revolution came first (President Eisenhower's term). In fact initially the US supported Castro as he promised to correct the injustices and corruption of the Batista regime and introduce democratic elections. It was only after Castro took over and instead created a communist government that the US terminated support for Castro and began supporting antiCastro groups based in Florida. Following the failed Bay of Pigs invasion planned by these antiCastro groups and the CIA, Castro turned to the USSR for defensive military aid. The USSR instead decided to send offensive missiles to Cuba. These were the missiles that resulted in the Cuban Missile Crisis (President Kennedy's term).
