Get a circuit tester and go out and put the red lead on one wire and the black lead on the ground wire and have someone push on the horn. Set your voltmeter to read 20 volts and watch , when the person pushes on the horn, the circuit tester should show a voltage reading maybe 12 or less but you shoudl get a reading. If you don't then there is somethign wrong in the wiring but if you get a reading...then the horn is bad and you need a new horn.

Most likely a blown fuse. But, the horn itself can be defective.

What causes the horn not to work on a Nissan Altima?

AnswerFirst thing is go find the fuse. Use a test light to check the fuse while it is still in the vehicle. If you have power on both sides of the fuse then you know that the fuse is good. Next, check for power at the horn, probably located on the left front wheel well, right front wheel well, or in the grill. Pull the wire to the horn and stick your test light into the connector. Have somebody push the horn while you see if you have power going to the horn. If you have power to the horn, you probably need a horn. If no power to the horn, you either have a broken wire or a bad horn switch (located behind the steering wheel). F

There must be a short in the system somewhere that causes the fuse to blow.

Could somebody please tell me what is wrong with my fuse It is the horn and cig lighter fuse on an '89 mustang I try to replace it but the fuse always blows when i press the horn?

There is a dead short in the horn pad, take off horn pad and look for two wires touching or a hot wire rubbing on something that is grounded. First, disconnect horns in bumper area then press the horn button then check fuse. If the fuse is still good, hook up horns and press horn again. If it blows fuse it is the horn itself.

What causes the check engine light to come on when the horn fuse is replaced?

The fuse for the horn and the OBD2 diagnostic computer is the same n recent FORD and Mercury models. The computer controls the check engine light. So replacing horn fuse is also isturbing the OBD2 computer

What would cause the horn to blow a fuse each time you use it?

Dead short in the horn or the wire. Try unhooking the horn and see if it still blows the fuse. Stop pusjing the horn so much! :-) Actually there seems to be a short or a bad horn. Check for the horn relay as well it may be stuck or bad.
