What is the tire pressure for a golf gti 2.0L?

Check blackwall. Should be around 32 psi if you are using the stock package that came with the car. Now if you are trying to alter the grip of your tire then 32 psi is what the manufacture recommends for that original equipment wheel and tire package only. Briefly, if you have aftermarket rims and tires then you have changed their equation and 32 psi is just a base standard to simply keep your tires stiff. Auto-Crosser, Drifters and Drag Racers change their tire pressure to suit there purposes and I myself never run as low as 32 psi on the street or otherwise.

Where is the obd II pod in golf gti mk4?

It's on the lower dash/console about mid way between the steering wheel and the pedals. Look around the leg area on the lower dash about where your shins are when you're driving. Go low and look up. You can't miss the multi-pin plug built right into the dash.

Will golf mk4 alloys fit a mk3 golf?

yes as long as they are the same stud fitment.

The mk4 golf is 5x100 bolt pattern and the mk3 golf is 4x100. unless it's a vr6 model which has the 5x100 bolt pattern so in general the mk4 wheels will not fit a mk 3.

Your golf gti oil pressure light keeps coming on saying stop engine check oil pressure but no oil is needed?

Due to the possible seriousness of low oil pressure, I suggest you (asap)check the actual oil pressure using a oil pressure gauge and compare the result with manufacturers/workshop manual specification.

I believe its possible to unscrew the existing oil pressure switch from the main oil gallery/engine and fit a oil pressure gauge (0 to 100psi).

If the oil pressure is at the value (or near it) that the manual states , then the oil pressure switch is faulty and should be replaced

If the oil pressure is low then further investigation is required as to why it is low, could be the oil pump, but also could be other causes.

This happened to my brother's engine this week. He has a 2005 Mark V Golf GTI. The problem is a fault with ALL Mark V engines. There's a gauze filter in the oil pickup pipe going from the bottom of the engine to the oil pump that gets completely blocked up. Even if you're Golf is not showing this fault at present, it may be starving the turbo of oil anyway (if you have one).

Solution: Drain oil from engine (remove bung in sump), before you remove sump, there's 3 bolts that go through the gearbox housing into the sump. Remove these. Remove sump (Allen key). There's no gasket between sump and engine. Rub old sealant off rim. You will be able to see right up into the engine at this point. There is a small pipe going from the oil pump into where the sump was. This pipe is normally sitting in the oil and it sucks up oil from the sump into the oil pump when the engine is started. The pipe is fixed to the oil pump with one Allen-key head screw and a rubber O-ring. Remove this and take off the pipe. The gauze filter is at the end of the pipe. Try and get a replacement from a motor-factor. Alternatively, you can clean it out well using petrol. Clean the sump well with petrol.

Replace all parts in reverse order! The job took about 3 hours to do and the car drives like a rocket now! If you're not confident enough to do all of this yourself get someone you know that's used to working on engines.

BE WARNED - if you continue to drive your car with this fault light coming on you will be shopping for a new engine very soon.

Valve clearance on golf 2 GTI 8v?

Valve clearance is not an issue with big-block VW engines (1.6L > 2.0L) as they employ overhead camshafts with hydraulic lifters (tappets). The lifters are self adjusting and maintenance-free, so there is no adjustment for valve clearance.

Tapping/rattling noises coming from the cylinder head generally result from a sticking lifter or excess valve-guide wear.

Lifters are not expensive and can be replaced with the cylinder head left in situ. It is also possible to strip, clean and rebuild lifters with little more than carbon-removing oven cleaner and a little patience.

Adding coolant to your 99 vw golf gti?

ONLY GET VW COOLANT or be dumb and put cheap stuff in and pay for it later. NEVER put green coolant in. Will destroy all coolant parts. It will rot them. Happened to me. I had to replace it all.

as with most cars you should almost always follow vehicle manufactures recommendations. I'm lucky, I have a 20 years plus VW dealer tech in the family and he warned me of this when I bought my 1998 2.0 GTI. The same is true when adding power steering fluid. In high school auto shop I was taught that regular ATF fluid was acceptable to use in place of power steering fluid. not the case any longer.

Can mustang wheels fit on mk4 golf gti?

"No, they will not, your wheel specs are:

Bolt Pattern 5x100

Stock Offset +35 e.t.

Hub Bore 57.1mm

...and those specs. do not match up with the 5X114.3 lug pattern mustangs are equipped with.

Chris Young - AmericanMuscle Customer Service Representative "

He is correct about the wheel specs, but if you still wanted to put mustang wheels on your Gti you could use wheel adapters going from the 5x100 bolt pattern to the 5x114.3 lug pattern...

How do you get sugar out of the gas tank of a 1997 Chrysler LHS?

The tank will have to be removed, and flushed.

then I would invest in a locking gas cap..

The whole sugar in the tank thing appears to be an urban legend/myth so tank removal or replacement would be unnecessary.

Car Batteries
VW Golf

When you change the battery on your 2001 VW Golf 2.0 you have to go to the dealer to get the computer reset is there a way to do this yourself?

yes,go to parts house look for tool to plug in to your cig.lighter it has the plug in for a 9volt batt.on it,this will keep enough power the e.c.m. so the program will not be lost. Actually you don't have to 'reset' it. It is very common for the battery terminals to be disconnected for various maintenance activities. That action is no different than replacing the battery. I actually replaced my battery in my 2000 GLS 2.0 two weeks ago. No problems. If you mean the head unit, the code is in your manual, just enter it in after your replace the battery.

Car Starting Problems
VW GTI
Timing Belts and Chains

What happens if you try to start your car and the timing belt is broken?

It probably will NOT start AND will damage the engine! 2nd Answer It is true that if you try to start the engine, it won't start. But it won't damage your engine. This problem happens alot. When a belt breaks, only the lower part of the engine will actually rotate when you crank it, (like it was normally designed to do). However, the upper part (the camshaft where the 12 0r 16 valves are) won't rotate. The reason is that the belt is no longer attached to it bcuz it broke. When the belt is attached to the lower crankshaft and the upper camshaft, the pistens move up and down and the 12 or 16 valves open and close as it was designed to do. This is the result of when you put the key and start the engine. This is how engine parts operate: Key goes in and turns the sw. Power is applied to the starter The starter begins to turn the flywheel, which is attached to the engine. The flywheel is attached to the Lower Crankshaft, and so are the pistons and timing belt. As the crankshaft turns, the pistons begin an up and down movement. At the same time, (by means of the "TIMING BELT" which protrudes to the top of the engine and is attached to the upper Camshaft), the Camshaft also rotates. This in turn causes the valves to open and close. Also, the igniton or known as the distributor, has a rotor and is also rotated by this camshaft sending out electricity to each sparkplug wire and sparkplug. Now, the job of the valves, is to allow gas and air to enter and escape from the cyl. (piston chambers). So, when air and gas enter, the piston travels up on compression stroke..Meaning the gas and air are being compressed. Now, when this happens, the sparkplug fires in the cylinder/piston chamber and the piston is sent down on a power stroke, creating power for the transmission to use. So.. You can see that the timimg belt is an important part and needs careful attention when replacing. Hope this tour was of help. JP If you have a non interference engine nothing will be damaged and your car wont start. If you have a interference engine your pistons will hit and bend your valves therfore you will have to take your cylinder head off and replace valves and seats, headgasket and any other gaskets in the way to take the head off =$$$$ If you try to start the engine, nothing will happen, you will hear the car crank, but it wont start. If the timing belt breaks while you are driving, you will severely screw up your valves, unless you have a non-interference engine.
