Manifest Destiny.
The Mexican-American war, warfare with native Americans and I forgot what else
The term Manifest Destiny was coined in 1845 by John O'Sullivan to describe a commonly-held belief that America was destined to extend from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean. It has three central tenets: 1. A belief in American Exceptionalism 2. A desire to spread American-style 'republican democracy' throughout the continent. 3. A belief that God had ordained this mission. Manifest Destiny was used a casus belli for war against Mexico and a challenge to British claims to Oregon.
Manifest Destiny was the idea that the US would stretch from sea to sea, covering everything that it now covers. Manifest means "Obvious" and destiny usually refers to God's will. So it was something that people felt would just happen because that's what happening anyway. i couldent of said it better myself lol
It was used by Democrats in the 1840s to justify the war with Mexico; the concept was denounced by Whigs, and fell into disuse after the mid 1850s.

Yes and No. Manifest Destiny states that the US Citizens should own all of the land in North America during the early years of the United States. The US Government now controls most of North America, so that would be a "No". However, some extremists believe that the USA should control all of the land in that the eye can see (with satellite technology, that would be the whole planet). That would be a "Yes". In reality, Manifest Destiny is a severely outdated concept and should not be applied to the current state of affairs. That would mean that "No" would be a more sensible answer.
