There is a huge difference because "Communism" was not a philosophy of Plato.
Plato wrote "The Republic" in which was a philosophy of unity and power of the people.
The Communist philosophy was started way later by Karl Max around the 1800s.
Both ideas are not the same but alike
communism is a classless society. there was never any communism in the past (what you are thinking of is socialism) and there is no communism today. if you are asking about the current "left", here's the difference: the socialists in 'communistic' societies were anti-liberal, while the ones here in a capitalist state are pro-liberal.
I believe you are incorrect in your idea of "Plato's Communism."
From what I can salvage, you either mean:
Plato's Republic
or
Marx's Communism
Since Communism is said twice, I am going to assume you do not want to know about the works of Plato, as he lived about 2000 years before the writing of the Communist Manifesto by Marx and Engels.
Marx's Communism is a utopian ideal society that he professed would exist after man progressed past their impulsive desires and self interest. Basicly, it is a world in which everybody lives to serve others, all work is done by volunteers, and tootsie pops grew from the fields like wild lilies (jk about the tootsie pops).
In Stalin's "Communism" he abandoned all of these wonderful ideas and became the single greatest mass murder of all time. Class act.
