First thing to look at is overheating issues, take off the side case so you can see inside. Get some air in a can, gasduster, compressed air whatever you want to call it, from your local office depot or equivalent. Clean all of your fans with the air can and don't miss the one on your video card if there is one! be sure the fins on the CPU heatsink are blown clean as well!
Believe it or not this will probably solve your problems. I have built my own systems for about 15 years and was stumped when my system was shutting down randomly and every time i did a virus scan too! I knew it wasnt the CPU fan or case fans cause i had cleaned them recently! After dealing with it for about a month I finnally broke down and decieded to get to the bottom of the problem and removed the video card to change it with another to see if that was the problem and when I looked into the fan on the video card it was VERY dirty, I blew the dust out with the canned air and reinstalled the card>I havent had the problem since!
If this didnt work it could also be caused by:
a) bad or overheating CPU
b) bad or unavailable sector in ram
c) bad or overheating motherboard
Short Drive Self Test - The quick version of a computer disk drive self test.
It widely depends on the hardware it has.

There is a problem with the operating system, or with data stored on the hard drive. If the machine is running Windows 98, right click on the icon for the hard drive, and open the 'Tools' menu. Select 'Error checking' and proceed. If the computer is running Windows XP, go to the control panel, select 'Maintenance' and look in the upper left corner for 'System Restore'. Point at that and click, and then select 'Restore system to an earlier time.' You will not lose any data, unless the hard drive is severely messed up. You should already have backed up everything important on the hard drive to a CD-ROM, or some other storage media. If this does not help, you need to have a technician check out the machine. Such a person can determine if the Central Processor Unit or the power supply have gotten so dirty that they are overheating, or if the software is corrupted.
When you start a computer up it performs a self check to make sure everything that should work is working. It sounds like the computer cannot or will not get past the self check. please take the machine to your nearest authorised Acre repair shop so they can trak down exactly what the problem is and talk with you about what you and they can do
you should try and delete files of the computer to lower the shut down rate
SMART long self test will find all the bad sectors of the computer and prevents the computer from being slow
It is unlikely that a sand storm could blow down a well-built, sturdy building. However, a severe sand storm could potentially cause damage to the exterior of a building or weaken its structure over time if it is not properly maintained.
Could it be in self-clean mode?
the battery is flat so you have to charge it up.
you knock down the book on the top self by the computer and use it as a ramp to jump on.
You never want to starve your self! That's probably the most unhealthy thing you can do to your body. You only have one of those remember. Starvation mode is not fun. It's basically when you're body shuts down.

One possible reason for this could be that your computer is overheating and has to shutdown every now and then. I suggest you get it checked by a computer technician. Also scan your entire system for any viruses or so. Well also another possible reason is that your computer may have alot of dust clogged up where the air is suppose to get out which causes the hot air to stay in your computer which will overheat and shut down. I suggest you go to a computer technician and let him take a look at it
