If it has a 3.8 liter engine, the head gaskets are blown. This is a very common problem and is expensive to fix. Refill it (water is fine for the test) and look for white steam in the exhaust. If it has been run empty for any length of time, the heads will probably need replacement as well.
A small leak can be hard to find since most of the coolant will evaporate. Fill up the cooling system, and wash the engine well. Check all the hoses and connections, and the water pump. Also check the radiator and heater core (if it leaks, the windshield will get smeary and nasty when the defroster is on).
Good luck.
96 chev leaking out everywhere
most likely heater core leaking
96 cadillac deville leaking on driver side bottom wondering what it could be from...... As long as it's not emptying, it's common that coolant comes out the over flow due to being over full
Check the water pump. Examine it for traces of dried coolant that might be leaking out of the casting.
If it is just water and not coolant, then suspect a leaking windshield, or possibly a A/C condenser drain line stopped up. If it is coolant, then the heater core is leaking and needs replacing.
There are 8 freeze plugs. If you have a bad one it's where the coolant is leaking from the engine block or a cylinder head, .
your head might be going out
could be fans not working, thermostat, blown head gasket, broken or leaking coolant lines, bad heater core
it uses dexcool coolant
