The rifles used by both sides in the USA Civil War were very accurate, and could hit targets many yards away, and some of the Union soldiers had rifles that could be reloaded with many rounds of ammunition and had a much faster rate of fire than single shot guns. There were massive casualties on both sides from charging into accurate, rapid fire rifles that could hit the people they were aiming at.
