Could an ECU cause an injector to not work in the car but it does when not installed?

It very well could. Before I condemned it, I would check the wiring from the computer to the injector with a multimeter. Sometimes squirrels and rats love to chew the wiring for some strange reason.

If the problem followed the fuel injector then it is a bad injector. If the problem stayed at the same hole with a different injector then it could be bad wiring.
