The thermostat housing on a 1997 Fiesta Zetec is under the alternator. It is inside the upper radiator hose, where the hose connects to the water pump.

How to fix the thermostat?
First you must locate the thermostat housing remove the three bolts and pull out the thermostat there will be a tiny o ring keep this for you will need to install this after you have placed the new thermostat in its proper place you will also need to replace the gasket that gets removed while taking the housing off to insert the new thermostat then you will need to torc the bolts back in place to avoid leakage from the housing you may also use a gasket sealent but not too much because it could drip into the thermostat if this occures it could clog the thermostat in this case you would need to start over in your mission

Follow the top radiator hose from radiator header tank across to where it meets the thermostat housing. the thermostat is inside this metal housing. you will need to disconnect the top radiator hose and unbolt the housing to remove thermostat. For the V6 motor, the thermostat is actually at the end of the BOTTOM radiator hose, adjacent to the intake assembly. TOP IS WRONG!!!!!!! on the 4 cyl. It is on the bottom radiator hose. take out 2 bolts on the housing, it is right there. I removed the passenger side cooling fan to get better access. I do not know where it is on a 6 cyl. though.
