It sounds possible that the lump is the bite of a venomous insect. This would explain the lump, and the pain along the nerve plexi that serve the facial area. If that's the only problem, there's not a lot you can do at this time. If it gets worse, e.g. redness increases, a boil forms, the pain increases or numbness manifests, consider calling a doctor.
I couldn't find anything about it being a symptom for sure, but I have nasty infections in both my ears now. It's been a week since I first noticed the fluid built up (I just started antibiotics today because nothing else was working), and my ears are strangely itchy. It's more around the outer area of the hole, and just started yesterday. However, I do know itchy ears can be a lot of other things too (for me its usually Allergies), so I wouldn't be to worried unless there are other symptoms as well.
