Friends are too close to you to see the truth. They want what's best for you (hopefully) and even if they promise not to lie to you, they will try to tell you bad things in a good way... so good you won't know what they really mean. Also, your therapist/counselor is not your friend. They have been trained and have experience with others like yourself, unlike your friend(s). You don't have fun with your therapist and if you can say the same about your friend(s) then you need better friends. Take it from someone who has a therapist... you won't know what it's like until you try. If you're curious, see a therapist and if you hate it you don't have to go back. The trick is to find the right therapist/counselor. Call a doctor you have and already trust and ask for a recommendation.

Why was counseling hated in the past?

There are a number of reasons that counseling was (and sometimes still is) looked at negatively. Usually it has to do with certain beliefs:"Receiving counseling is a sign of weakness.""People who go to counseling are crazy.""Everyone will find out what I talk about.""I wouldn't even know what to talk about.""I can't afford to pay for counseling.""I can always talk to a friend.""I don't believe just talking can do any good.""I'm betraying my family.""If I talk about my problems, I'll just make them worse, or completely fall apart.""Counseling can get in the way of being accepted to programs or by employers."Most of these are false, but it doesn't change the way society sees counseling. People often think that counseling does equal weakness or mental illness, and as a society we look down on people that can't cope. The thing that most people don't realize is that we *all* have times that we can't cope, and it isn't weak at all to seek help rather than dealing with problems in a self-destructive way.

How do you break contract with family credit counseling corporation?

Technically speaking there is no "Contract", its more of an agreement. I believe they may have gone under and sold their accounts to "American Debt Counseling, Inc." but from what I've read they have the same ripoff practices. The way to break your contract is simply fax them a written request to stop your automatic payments.

How To Find the Right Marriage Counseling?

Having trouble in any marriage is common, but finding the right marriage counseling is useful to any couple. Some believe marriage counseling should begin when the marriage begins. Other individuals agree that counseling should be left for “tune-ups” or any recognized trouble in the marriage. Regardless of formulated opinions on the manner, outside help in any marriage is an excellent idea. However, there are specific guidelines from knowing when and where to obtain the appropriate marriage counseling. Many professionals agree marriage should start on emotionally even ground. Couples who are in love, allow themselves to be open to change and therapy, and do not support negative biases against one another or someone of the opposite sex would be in an exceptionally agreeable place both in their marriage and marriage counseling. However, love and being open to possibilities and change only get marriages so far. Counseling does not work for couples who are contemplating divorce or have waited too long before looking for a marriage counselor or counseling group. Knowing the problem can help determine which marriage counseling is right for that couple. There are several categories a couple must contend with on a regular basis, many of which some marriage counselors have as a specific expertise. Though all of the categories are inherently personal, marriage counseling can touch base with everything related to a couple’s interpersonal relationship such as romance, sex and fidelity, and relationships outside of the marriage affecting the tone of a couple’s life together. Not only are there relationships outside the marriage, but other factors such as money or finances, family (both immediate and extended), and religion. All of these categories might be influenced by factors such as communication, internal or external conflicts, and spiritual factors. Once there are established categories of interest, couples and their marriage counselors will have a clear and communicative path of understanding. The final step of finding the right marriage counseling is the medium of the counseling. If a couple feels they need immediate assistance, couple retreats are one form of marriage counseling that might be right for them. Some couples option for something less intense such as one on one or group counseling. For couples who are interested or would like therapy but lack time in their busy schedules, there is always the possibility of marriage counseling online. As always, online searches or the local yellow pages can supply a variety of marriage counselors locally. Also, religious or religious leaders such as rabbis, priests, and ministers may offer services in marriage counseling. As long as a couple has open minds and open hearts, the ideal marriage counseling will bring them closer together.

If counseling does not produce positive results it wastes time and money tell us if you believe mental health counseling is valuable Why or why not?

Counseling is like like any other form of treatment, it may work quikly for one person but takes years to help another. The biggest factor in time frame is "How ready a person is to let someone else hear there pain", this is the toughest part. Second - How effective is the counselor? is it the right person for you, do they have experience with your mental issues. Can they provide compassion without pitty ( pitty will shut a person in recovery down faster than anything) Counseling is and contiues to be a strong partner in recognizing mental health issues and can be very effective. Hang in ther.

How do you get over it if you have been badly abused by many people in your life?

Sometimes it requires professional help. Don't hesitate to seek it (therapy and, in rare cases, medication). You will need some counseling. That is the best way to get over it in a healthy way. You need to relearn a lot of things that abuse damages. Very important to seek counseling about this. You need to really be honest with yourself about why you allow people to "abuse" you. Alot of times it has to do with the fact that you are a very kind-hearted person and don't believe that there are people that can be so cruel. That was me. Don't change your heart. That is a gift. But you cannot let people run you over. Counseling was a great thing for me. Alot of abuse has to do with what happens in your childhood and how has an adult you believe you "deserve" what you are getting. Not true. Free counseling can come from a church and other community services. Do it!! Don't wait.

Should marriage counseling be required for all married couples?

I don't believe that marriage counseling should be required for married couples. However, I do believe that it should be required before a divorce is allowed to take place, because they just might be able to save their marriage this way.
