Direct democracies do not exist in the modern world. A direct democracy requires the citizens to meet regularly to determine laws and make decisions. This might be ok in a tiny state where it was feasible for the citizens to assemble regularly, but would not work in today's world, so we have representative democracy where elected members of a parliament do it for the constituents who elect them.
The first direct democracy Athens was a city-state, and it was feasible for the citizens to assemble each fortnight to make laws and make other decisions in assembly. Hoeever it didn't work - the people were led astray by cunning orators, and their good decisions were outweighed by their rash and bad decisions. We have learnt from this, and accept that the parliamentary system is more likely to provide mature and workable governance in a complex and larger world of countries, not small city-states.
