that is very, very bad news, especially if you have a lot of custom content.
if it's crashing your game it means you downloaded a bad file, it could be corrupt or missing elements and it can cause your game to crash. what you need to do is either take out all of your custom content or do this:
i've had this problem before too, and this is what I had to do.
I created a folder on my desktop, it doesn't need to be named anything special.
then I would move 100 files or so from my sims 2 downloads file and put them into this newly created folder. then I would run my game and if it still crashed then I would add another 100.
eventually, you will find the file(s) that's causing the crash and you can then delete them and return all the files back into your downloads folder. it's a long and painful process

it means what you downloaded wasn't packaged right, or has other problems and is causing your game to crash, the only solution is to delete the custom content that is causing the crash.

it means that what you downloaded is crashing your game. hopefully you know what file it is that you put in your folder, if not then you have to search through them to find the one that's crashing your game. it happened to me once and i had to search through 5000 downloads.

After you have downloaded more than your computer has room for, the custom content will start deleting parts of your game to fit the content. IT CAUSES YOUR COMPUTER TO CRASH!!! I would know, it happened to me. :(
