it may be your steering assist pump: check the liquid level and if it is low, add until it is close to 'MAX'.After having added the Power Steering liquid, turn your steering wheel all the way to the left, hold it there(you should still hear the whine), then turn it all the way to the right, hold it there and repeat until you won't hear it anymore(2 or three times).

PS: the power steering reservoir is not the one near the steering pump, that is the brake liquid reservoir; power steering reservoir is closer to the front of the car and has a bigger cap that says...power steering on it

Why is the power steering in your 98 Olds Intrigue whining with a full reservior?

The whining noise most likely indicates that your power steering is touching something and when you turn, it'd rub against whatever it is everytime you turn OR the belt could be running against a hose, a frame if the motor mounts are broken the bottom air conditioner would be resting against the frame with belt in between, causing the whining noise.

What makes that screeching noise while stopping or starting up on a Daewoo Lanos 1.6 engine?

The screeching noise while stopping or starting up on a Daewoo Lanos 1.6 engine is often caused by worn or loose serpentine or accessory belts. These belts can slip on the pulleys, especially under load, leading to a screeching sound. Additionally, issues with the brake system, such as worn brake pads or rotors, can also contribute to similar noises when engaging or disengaging the brakes. Regular maintenance and inspection of the belts and brakes can help identify and resolve the issue.

How do you know what is making a grinding or scrapping or whining metal noise inside the motor of a 1990 Honda Civic 3dr 1.6l?

It is probably not coming from inside the motor. What you probably have is a bad alternator bearing, steering pump bearing, etc.
