The 60's "counter culture", etc. was a clash of pre-atomic people verses post atomic people. People (men and women) who were born and/or raised prior to 1945 (the first detonation of the atomic bomb) believed in life one way; because they were born/raised in a different world (no-atomic energy or atomic weapons-also known as the "JET AGE" and "SPACE AGE"). People (men and women) who were born/raised AFTER 1945 lived a life totally differently...as this generation was raised amongst the positives and negatives of nuclear power (unlimited energy and total destruction). This is where the line was drawn-1945/the atomic age (aka Jet Age & Space Age). The pre-atomic generation believed in what the pioneers believed in, mom, apple pie, church on Sundays, patriotism, suit and tie, trimmed front lawn, white picket fence, and soft mellow music (maybe), and a two car garage, etc. The Atomic-age generation believed that the world could end at any time (which it could) due to nuclear war (known as "mutually assured destruction" among military men, at the time); therefore "this" generation lived it's life as if there was no tomorrow...Beat-niks, Hippies, Rock 'n Roll, who cares about the white picket fence and two car garage!...etc...the "GENERATION GAP!"
The Vietnam War DRAFT was the impact. People can watch wars on television for days, weeks, months, and years, and it's just news to them. Once they have to participate in the war by being drafted to fight it...now they're concerned.

The Greek city-states varied widely, in every way from government structure to cultural values. The competition between city-states kept each group pushing for improved cities and lifestyles, but also led to hostility and war.
Mr. Stone would be very disappointed !
Those are called excuses (like drinking booze because he had a hard day at work, or got fired from his job, etc.). They were scared of being drafted into the military, that was all.
