Actually god wanted to test Abraham, so he told him to sacrifice Isaac his only son. when he tied Isaac and was about to do it. God told him to stop and not to harm the boy, and there would be a ram to be sacrificed.

Abraham had several children. Some of his sons were Ishmael (by Hagar)and Isaac(by Sarah) (Genesis 16:15-16)(Genesis 17:18-19), Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, Midian, Ishbak and Shuah(by Keturah)(Genesis 25:1-2).
When Isaac was in his twenties, Abraham followed God's command and prepared to sacrifice Isaac on an alter, but God stopped him before it happened.(Genesis 22:9-13). This account was included to show the depth of love God showed when allowing HIS son to be sacrificed in our behalf(Hebrews 11:17-19)(James 2:21). It also showed that if we are obedient to God in all things, God will not forget the 'love we show for his name'(1 John 5:3)(1 John 4:10)(Hebrews 6:10).

∙ 12y agoHe was surely asking about the sacrife up to the time he was told to lay upon the place of sacrifice which he did obediently. There was no doubt when his father took the knife above his head to strike and kill him. What an experience.
The above pictures God the Father in Abraham giving his son, Jesus pictured as Isaac, to be sacrificed for all of mankind. Without both Abraham's faith in God's prior promises and belief He can do all things, and Isaac's faithful obedience to his father even unto his own life, we may not of had a salvation (IMO).
