Not any more. President Obama was a cigarette smoker until very recently when he quit smoking.
In his autobiography and at other times he's admitted having made bad decisions in high school and college. He's on the record as having used marijuana multiple times, as well as having tried cocaine. He said he never did heroin. However, he realized he was headed down the wrong path and went clean, and, although he doesn't say when he stopped using drugs, he's drug-free right now.
In his memoir, Barack Obama indicated he gave up "partying" in New York when he made the decision to look for work as a community organizer. He said his roommate found him a bore after that. He got up early and went jogging. He wasn't doing any drugs when he moved to Chicago, several years before he went to law school.
He says that his wife, Michelle, agreed to support his run for president if he would quit smoking. So he quit. He must be chewing a lot of gum!
Yes, Mr. Obama has been very public about the fact that in high school, he got in with a group of students who used drugs (mostly marijuana); he also tried cocaine but did not like it. It was a time of confusion in his life, and he has said in his writings that smoking marijuana was one way he rebelled. It took until he entered college before he finally decided he no longer wanted to hang around with people who used drugs, and he began to focus on his studies and on his career plans.
Yes, and he has been very public about it. When he was in high school, he went through a period of rebellion when he smoked a lot of marijuana with a group of other students. He has also said he tried cocaine but did not like it. In college, he had to look seriously at what he wanted to do with his life (his grandparents had worked very hard to save the money so that he could attend); he decided he did not want to spend his time smoking weed, so he focused on his studies and stopped doing drugs.
The president's views are very conflicted. As a young man, he admits he went through a period of time when he used drugs, especially marijuana. But later, he made many changes in his life, got married, and now wants to be a positive role model for his children. As for the drug laws, he currently continues to enforce them, even though some of his own supporters wish he would come out in favor of medical marijuana or end the so-called "war on drugs."
In his own writings, Mr. Obama has admitted that during high school he used marijuana, tried cocaine, and also used alcohol. He has said he was going through a very difficult time in his life. Ultimately, he walked away from all of that and decided he did not want to use any illegal substances; instead, he focused on his studies. By all credible accounts, he has not done any of them in many years.
In his 1995 memoir "Dreams from My Father," the future president wrote about smoking pot as a teenager. In August 2008 he was interviewed at the Saddleback Civil Forum on the Presidencyat Saddleback Church in Lake Forest, CA. When asked by Pastor Rick Warren what was his greatest moral failure, then Senator Obama replied, "There were times where I experimented with drugs and I drank in my teenage years." He made no reference at that time to cocaine use.
Yes. He's said outright he experimented with alcohol, marijuana, and cocaine in high school in particular. The night of his election, however, no bottles of alcohol/chamagne were observed in multiple photographs of him and his family receiving election results. It's suspected he no longer consumes even occasional alcohol, much like George W. Bush, but this has not been confirmed.
President Obama himself has admitted that he had used the illegal drugs of cocaine and marijuana and he said that he considered using heroin as well. There is a wealth of information on the subject of Obama's drug use on the internet.
Yes, Of course. Everybody knows that he did. He dealt everything. Cocaine, Ecstasy and other class A drugs.
