He negotiated with the French to enlist their help in the American Revolution. After the war was over and the US didn't follow through on promises made to the French crown, he was able to convince them AGAIN to hep out the United States with other issues. If I could remember specifically what they were, I'd tell you. I'm not an historian!
He was the Ambassador to France. He signed the Declaration of Independence.
If he was important enough to be remembered for just these things alone, I'm sure he did a lot more as a politician as well.
