Yes, despite what all these "internet

experts" claim, Colt made them 1970-1980. Yes, it's true, there are some floating around that folks changed on their own, but Colt made them at the factory that way too. They had early M-16 uppers, most had no forge codes on the uppers.

The front pivot hole diameter is smaller than the receiver and the factory used an offset screw to mate the pair. These rifles are scarce, and worth considerably more than the slab side SP-1 everyone drools over. It's the closest design to a Vietnam era M-16 you will find. Don't pass up on one because someone said no SP-1's had forward assists. They are just plain wrong.
