Former Confederate general James Longstreet went into the business world after the US Civil War. He was involved with insurance and the cotton business. Sadly for him, many historians blame him for the Southern defeat at Gettysburg. As an aside, Longstreet drew the wrath of Southerners by becoming a member of the Republican Party.
