Veracruz was founded by Hernan Cortes (1485 - 1547) on April 22, 1519 when he set foot in Mexico. He named the city as "Villa Rica de la Vera Cruz" or "Rich village of the True Cross".Mexico-Tenochtitlan or simply Tenochtitlan was founded by the Aztecs on March 13, 1325 when they became permanent settlers of the Texcoco Valley.After the Fall of Tenochtitlan in August 13, 1521. Tenochtitlan came to be Mexico City, but it was not founded by Cortes - he just renamed it to sound more "Spanish", as was the practice of the day.
