They did land troops in Norway several times and they came home safely too. There were special missions done by the "Commandos". They were parachuted into special locations. They skied from the drop points, carried out secret attacks which were successful, then they were picked up by the Navy. You can read about one of their missions on the link below.

If Norway, Sweden or Denmark the land would all be snowed over very heavily and would be freezing cold. There would be small villages of ruthless vikings, who were used to harsh conditions. In England or Normandy, Vikings weren't used to the new land so they didn't mix well with the terrain.

During the play Claudius mentions numerous times that Norway would likely attack Denmark. Before the play, Denmark had taken much land from Norway and Hamlet Sr (Hamlet's father) killed the Norwegian King (Fortinbras' father). Technically though, Norway never attacks Denmark, but the two can be considered to be on the brinks of war. It should be noted Norway does attack and take land from Poland during the play.

The main reason was that Germany wanted control of the WORLD! After the end, there was about 10000 acres taken away from there whole country. Sweden,Norway,and England got the most of this land expanding there borders and compacting Germany's in case of another attack, as represented by WWII.
