This requires a person to know the mind of the President. We know that he was factually incorrect, but in order to "lie", the person lying needs to know that the information was factually incorrect at the time he makes it. I personally believe that the President wanted a reason to invade Iraq so badly (to make up for his father's "mistake" of not overthrowing Saddam Hussein), that he did not question the faulty evidence provided him and wanted to believe it. As a result, I believe that Bush actually believed his incorrect statement to be true, which means that he was not lying.

What was the reason for US intervention in the region in the Iraq war?

The primary reason for US intervention in the Iraq war was the belief that Saddam Hussein's regime possessed weapons of mass destruction (WMDs) and posed a threat to regional stability. The US administration also aimed to promote democracy and remove a dictator from power. However, subsequent investigations found no evidence of WMDs, raising questions about the accuracy of the original intelligence.

Why did georye bush start the war?

Afghanistan- Supposedly because of al-Qaeda and Osama bin Laden being in Afghanistan. Iraq- Supposedly because of WMDs (did not exist) and Saddam Husseins cruelty. This is very debated but these are the official reasons.

Why do Republicans think Bill Clinton should have been impeached for lying about his infidelity and George Bush should go Scott free after misleading the world on Iraq?

Clinton was impeached for obstruction of justice, not for lying about his infidelity. You or I would have gone to prison for a few years for lying on the witness stand. Bush's 'lies' about Iraq were the same ones the democrats were telling during the Clinton administration. See the related question at http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Did_George_Bush_lie_about_the_WMDs_in_Iraq to read the quotes from prominent democrats (including both Clintons) about Saddam's WMDs.

What real reason did George Bush have for invading Iraq?

President Bush gave Saddam Hussein an ultimatum: Either provide definitive proof of disposal of weapons of mass destruction, or else resign as leader (dictator) of the country. He did neither. Accordingly, Congress authorized the use of force should Hussein not comply. Virtually every congressman and other high ranking official in America and indeed throughout the world thought that Hussein still had WMDs. Hussein's downfall stopped the official tyranny in Iraq. Unfortunately terrorists still are causing widespread mayhem, not only in Iraq, but throughout the world.

What was the main reason why Iraq went to war during gulf war?

The reason as to why the United States went to war Iraq remains contentious. The official reason given however was to remove a regime that was developing and using the weapons of mass destruction. The Initial Official Justification was that Iraq was creating Weapons of Mass DestructionThe primary reason given by the administration of George W. Bush was that Saddam Hussein, the leader of Iraq, was engaged in the production or acquisition of weapons of mass destruction (WMDs). These are nuclear, chemical, or biological weapons (examples are the anthrax letter attacks in the US and the Sarin gas attacks in Tokyo--neither of which had any connection to Iraq). It was suggested that Hussein might provide these weapons to terrorists to attack the US. He had already used chemical weapons sold to him by the US against Iran, and also against Iraqi Kurds. Before the war UN inspectors announced they had found no evidence of WMDs, despite unfettered access. After the war was under way, additional investigation concluded Saddam did not have WMDs.

What two claims president Bush made for why the US should invade Iraq?

POTUS Bush asserted that Iraq President Saddam Husein possessed Weapons of Mass Destruction, particularly nuclear weapons (which he mispronounced as nook-u-ler), and that Iraq provided a safe heaven for 9/11 terrorists. Both assertions proved untrue. US forces found no WMDs, and the levels of Al-Quieda and Taliban membership rose after the US arrived as a reaction against US occupation.

On Good Morning America what no-spin zone host made good on his pledge to apologize to America if no WMDs were found in Iraq?

What are people's views on the Iraq war?

A majority of the American people now believe that the Iraq War was a mistake. Despite the claims of the Bush administration, Saddam Hussein was not in any way involved in the 9/11 attacks and had no weapons of mass destruction. The war took much longer and cost far more (in both blood and treasure) than the Bush administration claimed. We were greeted as invaders, not as liberators. Many of the claims by the Bush administration are controversial, but some of them can be easily proven to be intentional lies. For example, Vice President Cheney repeatedly said that there was "no doubt" that Saddam Hussein had WMDs. We know that in fact there were doubts, and that Cheney was aware of those doubts. Even if he believed and the CIA believed that Saddam Hussein had WMDs, there were doubts and he knew that, but lied in saying that there was no doubt.
