No. The Sons of Liberty --as an organization-- started in Boston and it was the New York group that helped to organize groups in other states. The earliest group was in Boston in 1765. Washington was in Virginia. He did not get active in politics until he joined the Continental Congress in July 1774. Although he did show interest in politics as early as 1769.
