This question can only be answered with opinions as opposed to fact, because there is no way to ever know for sure. While there are many who believe in a literal interpretation of everything in Genesis, the question must be asked, "When/why did God STOP talking to men?" I believe that God never literally verbalizes to humans but He probably often does give us messages through visions, dreams, sudden ideas, and even that little thing called our conscience (ie., guilt trips), etc.

Answer:

God spoke to Cain (Genesis 4:7) but is not recorded as ever having spoken to Abel. Abel's life was too short.

According to Jewish tradition, prophecy ceased around 340 BCE.
