Neither, really.
Mussolini was a fascist, so he wouldn't have promised to free Italy from fascism. He did dislike capitalism, but under his fascist government, he used a form of economics called "corporatism", which was, simply put, a cooperation between government and corporations, with them working together to rule the economy.
Hitler was the leader of the Nazis, and Nazism is somewhat similar to Fascism. So Hitler made no promises to free Germany from Fascism. Hitler openly disliked economics, and didn't really care about them; however, he disliked Western capitalism, mainly because he believed that it was dominated by Jewish people. His economic policies were to largely maintain capitalism in Germany, except that he removed "foreigners", especially Jews, from the economy as much as possible.
So you could make the argument that they promised to get rid of capitalism, but in reality, neither actually did a lot to truly get rid of it.
They would return their country to "greatness"
Hitler and Mussolini were both thugs, who appealed to the most barbaric and uncivilized elements of their respective nations.
he was captured by the Allies and hung upside down along with his Mistress in the town square.
Both Hitler and Mussolini's downfalls were from the loss of World War 2. Stalin had no downfall. He died while still in power in 1953.
They signed a treaty together with Japan, becoming allied together as the Axis Powers, because they all felt like they got a bad deal following the result of World War I. Mussolini had created a totalitarian government in Italy. He saw Hitler as the idea totalitarian leader. Hitler saw Mussolini as a possibly useful puppet. Before long, Hitler saw Mussolini as completely useless, even as a puppet, and went out of his way to humiliate Mussolini. Mussolini's government collapsed in 1943, and Italy joined the Allies.
Truth is, there aren't that many similarities at all. * Both were veterans of the First World War * Both were wounded in the First World War * Both served as Heads of State in their respective nations. * Both earned power legally, without force. * Both utilized paramilitary forces before power and during their regimes. (Hitler had the Brownshirts, Mussolini had the Blackshirts). * Both were shorter than the average man, though Mussolini was by far more muscular than Hitler. * Both were extraordinary speakers * Both enjoyed appearing in military uniforms. These are some of the similarities, but it should be stressed that, despite these, Hitler and Mussolini were very different men. To be told, while Hitler looked up to Mussolini for the majority of his early political career, Mussolini did not share the same feelings for Hitler. In fact, the first words Mussolini said after meeting Hitler for the first time were; "I don't like him, he looks like a weasel"

They both thought that they could rule the world. Hitler suicided while Mussolini was deliberately murdered and thrown on the roads of Italy!!
Fascism, a less extreme version of communism. Both are socialist ideologies that require virtual dictatorial rule to keep the people in-line.
