Scholars doubt whether James wrote even one book in the New Testament.

The author of the Epistle of James seeks to encourage faith and moral behaviour, but never speaks of Jesus as the source of his teachings. If the author had been James, brother of Jesus, one could expect him to at least mention his relationship in order to gain acceptance of his message, perhaps by telling us just what Jesus had said. If the author had been the apostle James, one could expect him to at least mention having listened to Jesus, once again in order to gain acceptance of his message. Yet the only two brief mentions of Jesus appear in contexts where they could be later interpolations to the text, and certainly not adding credence to the epistle's message. This book could scarcely have been written by anyone who knew Jesus.
