Matthew 27:5 And he cast down the pieces of silver in the temple, and departed, and went and hanged himself.

Acts 1:18 Now this man purchased a field with the reward of iniquity; and falling headlong, he burst asunder in the midst, and all his bowels gushed out.

Judas hung himself, yes. And then while he was dead, God made his chest open and his guts spilled out onto the ground. However this is not how he killed himself. He hung himself, not split himself open. God did that There is a simple answer which explains this. There is apparently a cliff where Judas is supposed to have hung himself. Either the rope broke, or the branch broke.

No, Judas did not commit suicide. The two stories in Matthew and Acts have too many contradictions for either of them to be really true. Neither evangelist really knew what happened to Judas.

Matthew says that Judas returned the money; the priests bought land that they called the field of blood specifically because it was blood money; Judas committed suicide. If the author really knew that Judas hanged himself, as he clearly says, he would also have known that the branch broke if indeed it did. and would have said so.

Acts says that Judas spent the money to buy land. Whether drunk or otherwise, he fell down and killed himself and his intestines gushed out. A botched suicide would have been seen as a deserving end, so the evangelist would hardly have failed to mention it, but says nothing of Judas attempting to hang himself bu dying anyway. They called the land the field of blood specifically because Judas had died there and his intestines had burst out.
