Michael Collins only really affected Irish and British history while he was alive, though if you think more about it, he did some things that indirectly had an effect on the world stage. Through Collins' influence Ireland became the first small nation to challenge the British Empire. Surely this had some impact at the time in other parts of the Empire, which was massive at the time.
yes but not as much as his fellow cork man Terence McSwiney who probably affected the world more then any other Irish person. He was arrested during the war of independence whilst being lord mayor of cork but refused to acknowledge the jusisdiction of the court. He went on hunger strike and died 74 days later. It was a massive worldwide news story. Strikes were held all over the world to protest. He was also an author and poet and his books and actions led to him being a massive influence on India's ghandi and vietnams Ho Chi Minh among others.
an ANSWER
people who have made a difference to our colllective human history ( for good and bad, big or small) have to varying degrees done so because of our animal instinct, natures programming. the need to exist...to sustain are essentially to the bone primeval...animal...not a veg or mineral. I don't know much about what animals think beyond that protect kill eat and move on... some do some don't to varying degress, i guess who .Hey...there's times when we're all guilty of being thoughtless now and again. So what's really changed..What happened to us.. when did we cease to adopt to r environment and make it adopt to us...we haven't changed we're flawed capable of greed so much that by now the guy who started it all had many elite money men...making it good from the greatest swindle in history.. so.change of environment or change in person....answer: BOTH?? my hunch is it's both afterall we coexist..one living animal...living in another..perhaps a question for another time.
So, what made the difference and has been for the better? Ignorance is bliss, yes, no..depends on the individual. No we have sustained..bettered...advanced, made life alot easier to survive than back in the hunter gathers daysSo why did this happen, what sets our species form the resT?...WHY ARE WE WRITING HISTORY AND NOT THE ANIMALS...SOUNDS STUPID BUT THE TRUTH THEY DO..IN THEIR OWN TRIED AN TRUSTED WAY...COMMUNICATION..STORY TELLING..THE SPOKEN Word...indeed with very passsing millenia, century, year that passed in our history....the spoken word was on a beatin ticket!!!!It'a hard to believe now we used to travel with the very words ..msg..that needed passing on..........and now we're so clever we can convey msgs n communicate from the spot where u stand regardless of distance on or of the planet!!!!!!!!!!!1........................................most significant in all this was and to a lessor degree today because of our money problems mainly people got a work to pay for all stuff...and/or go into dbt ...actually 100% debt ...of course we are...there isn't enough money for us cos what little the money guys pay is just not as important looking after no. 1. a role did mans 'curiosity' play...the hunger learn...undestand..puzzle solve and the of on pure mankind ..human nature..and a sense of advancement..personality, strength of character.. passions, determination arguably, all very sound attributes .. and equally significantly.. because of fear...hatred...greed...weakness...anger... the very essence of human existence itself. belief in ones convictions the ability forsee a future promised a better life. In changing the present situation of all those around him, Michael Collins did not merely just effect Irish/british history..he changed it forever... and with that the lives and future lives of the Irish people...all over the world!!!...lets not overlook the impact of the famine and the exodus of those who had just 1 last thing to hold onto our inbreed animal insticts, the need to sustain our being yes but more importantly mans curiosity..animal instinct also? However, Collins done a lot more than that...in fact if you want to guage just one offshoot of the global effect of his lifes deeds..may i suggest...for example look no further than the spawning of the term 'terrorist'' now firmly planted in our collective conciousness. Yes, we cannot overlook the power of the written word..we only need to recall a certain printing press in 1500's that shook Europe to it's very bones...I don't know if i could decide upon who did a better service to the people of Ireland...politicains...revolutionaries...poets...musicains..perhaps in some cases..warrior poets... the rest they said....is history!!! what's in the past is past and whether we agree or not is an individual mans choice but when you look at the bigger it just keeps getin bigger..until it'll get so big it will explode....and wasn't that how we all got started out...haha....
...they do say history has a habit of repeating itself!!!

He inspired many other reveloutinaries, namely Ché Guevara, and even today is studied by many Special Forces, Army's, and the U.S. Marine Corps.
Michael Collins had a significant impact on world history, particularly through his role in the Irish struggle for independence and the subsequent establishment of the Irish Free State. His leadership in negotiating the Anglo-Irish Treaty of 1921 and his involvement in the Irish Republican Army's guerrilla warfare tactics influenced liberation movements worldwide. While Collins primarily influenced Irish and British history, his actions reverberated in post-colonial contexts globally.
