Neil was he first to go on the moon because a Chinese man was the first man in space so president John F. Kennedy decided that an American would be the first person on the moon.
Wow. The first person to enter the earth's orbit was Yuri Gagarin. A Russian. The US decided to land a man on the moon and deliver him safely back to earth. Neil Armstrong just happened to be that man.
"That's one small step for man; one giant leap for mankind."
Armstrong meant to say "That's one small step for a man; one giant leap for mankind, but he misspoke in the excitement of the moment.

Buz Aldrin NOT Neil Armstrong! Neil Armstrong landed on the moon 10 minutes after Buz Aldrin did. They also went with Mike Collins who flew round the moon several times never actually stopping the rocket in space at all! So Neil Armstrong should not take all the credit because actually Buzz Aldrin landed first but if you want our science teacher o be happy say Neil Armstrong. :)
