Noah's wife, and his sons and their wives were also on the ark. They would have had children (bearing in mind that the lifespans were longer then), grandchildren and so on... Studies have been done that show it is quite possible to have the population we have in the world today in the time since Noah lived.

Answer 2

Let's be mathematical. Say for instance a generation were to double the population, so that 2 parents had 4 children. If there's a generation every 20 years, that would give time for 200 generations in 4000 years. The current world population is some 7 billion. 2 to the 33rd power is well over 8 billion, so he would really have needed only 33 of the potentially 200 generations of his descendants doubling the population; so it's certainly feasible. .

No; not quite! Like many parts of The Bible, this specific story is metaphorical underlying religious concepts and Ideas. It is the same as the Adam and Eve story; Adam and Eve simply mean Man and Woman in Hebrew so it is allegorical for the story.

Answer:

Yes, just as Adam and Eve populated the ante-deluvian world. Jesus directly refers to both so it is far from allegory:

Luke 17:26New King James Version (NKJV)

26 And as it was in the days of Noah, so it will be also in the days of the Son of Man:

Population statisticians estimate that by 1800, there were one billion people living.

From 1800 to 1920, the world's population doubled, reaching 2 billion (see Link). Since then, it has more than tripled again. Even taking disease and wars into account, one couple could populate the Earth in just 3800 years. So statements "clearly" to the contrary need not be based upon facts.
More accurately, according to tradition Noah had three sons and their wives, who survived the Flood; and they, but not Noah and his own wife, had children after the flood.

In this calculator, starting with the six people ("dollars") mentioned above, adding zero "dollars" per year and assuming just one-half percent growth per year for 3800 years (from the Flood until 1820), we see that one billion people will result by that time. (Since then, the growth rate has increased and is a matter of record).

One-half percent growth is a conservative figure, in line with historical estimates, and allows for dips due to disease or calamity. (Historically, "baby booms" have been noted after events of widespread death.)

Moreover, had there been the thousands of generations of humans which Evolutionary chronology theorizes, we would ask: Where are all the bones? The actual finds, including layers of habitation and other physical signs, are relatively sparse and accord with a recent date of Creation.

Clearly a man who is supposed to have died only four thousand years ago could not have populated the earth, particularly as we now know that the Australian aborigines have been in continuous occupation of Australia for over fifty thousand years. In seeking to find any truth in the story of Noah, we should consider the story to be symbolic only.

Ignoring the evidence of isolated populations such as the Australian aborigines, some say that by assuming the world's population doubles each and every century, it could be just possible. This is mathematically plausible, but not historically. We have solid evidence for how little the world's population grew in the centuries before the Industrial Revolution.

Noah was the first man to build a vinyard before he died at the ripe old age of 950. (Noah's life is described in the Bible in the book of Genesis, chapters 5-9.)
