The Confederacy. The employment of the slaves in the works of fortification, repair or building of roads, railways and logistical purposes, allowed the Confederates to deploy more troops for fighting purposes.

That helped to ensure that the ratio between Federals and Rebels units on the battlefield was almost never overwhelming in favour of the Union, which had generally to use its combat units for those purposes.

Slave labor helped the southgrow cotton at a fast pace. This helped the economy in the south. Not just the south benefited from slaves but the north too. The south directly was helped by the slaves but indirectly helped the north too. See the more cotton that was made the more cloth produced from up north. This huge and successful era is called the industrial revolution.

The South had a Slave labor economy, in which labor is cheap and technology is expensive. North had the technology advantage but labor was relatively more expensive. Much like the current situation with China and the United States.

Why was the south was slow to end slavery?

Because the South was much more dependent on slave labor than were the North. The South was known for its enormous plantations (most commonly, cotton), and slave labor was the only way to tend to those plantations without spending large amounts of money on hired hands. What are three differences between the north and the south?

The South relied on agriculture, especially cotton and tobacco , and used slave labor to do much of the work. The North concentrated on manufacturing and did not use slave labor. The North had extensive railroad connections- the South had few railroads. The Southerners were mostly Protestants of Scotch- English- Northern Irish decent. The North had more diverse backgrounds- people from Germany, Sweden, Holland, Irish Catholics and elsewhere, as well as the English. The North had more money and could better equip their forces. The also had a much larger navy.

False. That was why it developed MORE SLOWLY. The South had an agricultural society and produced fewer manufactured goods.

How did the South's labor system different from the North's?

The South's labor system was generally more farming than factories. The north were much more advanced in the lines of production and had started to adopt more techniques that we use today. The south's labor system was largely based on slaves doing the work for no money, where as the north was free with wages paid.

Why did the south depend on slave labor?

because unlike the North the south didn't have the right economic system for it to have factories. The South was not industrialized like the North was, therefor it had slaves. also it had large plantations of cotton and other plants, that farmers couldn't harvest alone so they used slaves.
