∙ 11y agoIt turns out that he did, but he was not aware of this at the time of the 'selection'. Nixon's vice president, Agnew, resigned. Nixon then nominated Ford to take Agnew's place, and Ford's nomination was accepted by the Senate. Then when Nixon resigned, Ford became president without any elections or ratifications necessary. He was legally vice president when Nixon resignedand therefore the office of president became his.
