Queen Elizabeth I (1533 - 1603) was locked up in the Tower of London in March 1554 for 8 weeks, (when she was still Princess Elizabeth) on the orders of her half sister, Mary I (1516 - 1558). Mary was suspicious of Elizabeth and thought she might be the inspiration for plots against her.

When Mary I died in 1558, Elizabeth became Queen.

Elizabeth I (1533 - 1603) did suffer imprisonment for a short period, when she was still Princess Elizabeth, and her half-sister Mary was Queen Mary I (1516 - 1558).

Because Mary was suspicious that Elizabeth may be involved in plots against her, she had Elizabeth consigned to the Tower of London in March 1554 for 8 weeks. After which time, Elizabeth was released to house arrest.

But when Mary died in 1558, Elizabeth came to the throne.

Queen Mary, Elizabeth's half sister, imprisoned her in the Tower of London. Mary did so because she believed that Elizabeth was a threat to her throne. Also, Elizabeth was a Protestant while Mary was Catholic, so naturally there was some tension there.

Did edward V1 rule after elizabeth 1?

No, Edward VI ruled before Elizabeth I. They were half-brother and half-sister. Before their father, Henry VIII died, he put Edward 1st in line for the throne because women couldn't rule England alone. This was changed by Mary (Edward and Elizabeth's half-sister) after Edward died. Elizabeth was the second queen to rule alone.
