No. He was in uniform but did not fight. At first he served with the Illinois horse guard, one of the last of the vanishing horse cavalry of that time, and later he served in a motion picture unit based in Hollywood, making promotional and Propaganda films in support of the war effort. Many Hollywood personalities were in this outfit making movies in support of the war.

Others actually participated. Director William Wellman went to Europe and flew on bombing missions to make the documentary of the Memphis Belle. Clark Gable went to England and made movies, but he made them with the 8th Air Force where it was deployed, in the war zone.

Jimmy Stewart finished a tour as an actual combat pilot of a B-24 heavy bomber. He was such a fine pilot the Air Force made him a check pilot, to take new pilots up and see how they handled the planes, and if they were ready to try combat missions. Stewart retired from the Air Force reserve as a brigadier general, and would have made a much better president than Reagan.
